What is the difference between home care and home health care?

Home care is companion care and covers all the activities of daily living. Home health care indicates a nursing staff, physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Home care is paid for privately, whereas home health care is prescribed by a physician and covered by Medicare or supplemental insurance providers.

What is the minimum shift you will cover?

Our minimum shift is 3 hours a day, one day a week.

What is the maximum shift?

Seven days a week, 24 hours a day

Does the caregiver use my car?

The caregiver can drive their own car (rate is $.58/mile) to run your errands or take you to the doctor. Caregiver can use your car at no charge.

Is this covered by Medicare?

Our services are not covered by Medicare. They are covered by private pay, Long Term Care Insurance and Aids and Assistance through Veteran’s Administration.

Can I use insurance to pay for in-home care?

Yes, our services are covered by Long Term Care Insurance and Aids and Assistance through Veteran’s Administration. Medical insurance does not currently pay for or reimburse the cost of in-home companion care.

Can I live in a retirement community and have help?

Yes, most independent and assistant living communities welcome our care.

What happens if a caregiver gets hurt on the job?

Our Caregivers are bonded and insured under our general liability and workers compensation insurance policies.

Do I need to be a nurse?

No, we provide non-medical companion care in the comfort of the client’s home.

Do I have to drive?

Caregivers are not required to drive, as not all clients have transportation needs. We will match you with one of our clients based on your skills and abilities.

Do I have to have my own car to provide transportation for clients?

Foothill allows caregivers to use your own car or the client’s car, depending on the client’s preference. If you use your own car, you will be reimbursed at the federal mileage reimbursement rate.

Do I get paid for using my own car to drive the client?

Yes, at the federal mileage reimbursement rate, which is currently $0.58/mile.

Do I get paid sick days?

Yes, our caregivers receive 24 hours of paid sick leave each year.

Do I get overtime pay?

Yes, we provide overtime pay in accordance with California law. We also provide overtime pay on holidays.

Do you provide health insurance?

Yes, we provide insurance for caregivers who work over 30 hours/week.

Do you provide a 401k?

Yes, we provide 401k plans for all caregivers.
